"Food" by Pastor Peter Thomas

Food

Food - God condemns the eating of swine’s flesh.  It was never meant for human consumption.  Scripture also condemns the eating of scavenger meats.  To those who would say that it is the weak believer who believes this, is God weak?  Consider that I am not a novice.  Our predecessors who taught that it is okay to eat anything, their words do not invalidate, nor supercede, the Word of God.

Prayer  does  not  make  unclean  meat  clean.  For one to say you can eat scavenger and ferocious meats is to differ with what our Creator prescribed for all times.  That is a lying, seducing spirit - part of the doctrines of devils (1 Timothy 4:1).  Proverbs 12:22, “Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.”  It is abomination to the LORD.

If you say we are not under  The  Law,  so we can eat anything, you are a weak individual in the area of discipline concerning food.  The Noahic Flood of Genesis 6-9 occurred prior to The Law.  God’s Law concerning dietary habits and restraints is for all times.  This Law goes back to Genesis.  (See  Genesis 1:29-30,  Genesis 6:18-22,  Genesis 7:1-4, 7-9,  Genesis 8:15-22,  Genesis 9:1-4).  Even the account with Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:4), Abel offered the firstlings of his flock.

If you casually misquote, “Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you” (Genesis 9:3),  I  say  not  so,  for in that same verse we are told God has given us every green herb.  Yet we know poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans), as well as some other green herbs are not to be eaten.  Trichinosis is poisoning, a disease caused by infestation of trichina larvae or parasitic worm larvae in pork.  Many are sickly and diseased because of this defiance.

God’s Word tells us in Isaiah 66:17 that  they  that  eat  swine's  flesh,  and  the  abomination,  and  the  mouse,  shall  be  consumed  together.  To suggest that one can eat a pig (pork, bacon, pork sausage, baby backs, pork ribs, etc.) is to say that one can also eat a mouse.  Or how about a serpent (Genesis 3:14)?  I know that this is not so.  It is abominable to the LORD.  Respectfully, I ask that you NOT partake of or offer any scavenger meats (examples: NO foods with pork elements, no seafood items like crabs, lobsters or shrimps (any shellfish), nor any catfish, etc.).  Foods or sauces with any of these ingredients in them are not acceptable.

Poultry basics such as clean chicken, turkey, and eggs are fine.  Fish is fine, providing that they have fins and scales or derived from fish with fins and scales.  As a reference, we provide scriptures you may look at: Leviticus 11:9-12; Matthew 7:9, 10; Leviticus chapter 11.  Occasional beef is okay.

We  may  eat  of  clean  meats  to  be  received  with  thanksgiving  ( 1  Timothy  4:3-5  are  clean  meats  to  be  received  or  allowed  to  be  eaten ).  With all these things in moderation, remember your roughage (fruits and vegetables)

Also, though Romans 14:15 is referenced, none of Romans chapter 14 is dealing with unclean meat.  Romans chapter 14 is talking of the weak in faith who say you should not eat any meat at all, particularly meats offered to idols.  But Acts 14:13 also establishes for us that the heathen did not sacrifice with swine or unclean animals.   (See  also  Romans 14:1-4,  1 Corinthians 10:27-31,  1 Corinthians 8:4-9, 11-12,  Romans 14:15,  Romans 14:21,  Romans 14:13,  Isaiah 66:15-17,  Revelation 18:2).  (See  also  Hosea 4:6,  Exodus 15:26)

Beans, wholegrain cereals such as oats and many fruits and vegetables are high in soluble fibre [fiber] or roughage.  Enjoy this, consumption of which aids digestion.  Whatever you do, including eating and drinking, do it all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).
