Sabbath Day Keepers & 10 Commandments

Praise the Lord, Dear Reader. Is the sabbath day to be kept today? Did Jesus keep the Ten (10) Commandments? Read below and then I will ask a question again.

Matthew 12:1-8, King James Version (KJV)

1 - At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.

2 - But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.

3 - But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;

4 - How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

5 - Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

6 - But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

7 - But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

8 - For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Read the verses below. Dear reader, pay special attention to verse 19. Tell me, how many commandments did Jesus tell the rich young ruler to keep? Did he tell him to keep the 10?

Mark 10:19

Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

Mark 10:17-23

17 - And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

18 - And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

19 - Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

20 - And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

21 - Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

22 - And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

23 - And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

Dear reader, how many commandments did Jesus command in Mark 10:19?

In Matthew 22:37-38, Jesus speaks of the first and great commandment.

Matthew 22:34-40

34 - But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

35 - Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

36 - Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 - Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 - This is the first and great commandment.

39 - And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 - On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

How many commandments are in Matthew 22:37-39?

Again, I ask, did Jesus keep the 10 commandments?

The sabbath meant rest, pointing to a rest and ceasing from natural labour at that time. Pointing to us in this dispensation to cease from our labour of what we want to or would do, sin. No servile work. Regardless of what went wrong that day, they could do no work. Now God commands us to cease from sin, cease from doing evil and learn to do well. They were commanded to keep the sabbath in the fifth (5th) dispensation, which was the last dispensation. Now, in this sixth (6th) dispensation, we are not commanded to do so. We do not keep the sabbath today. It was only pointing to a rest you get in God, resting from your own labour.

Leviticus 23:23-32

23 - And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

24 - Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

25 - Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

26 - And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

27 - Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

28 - And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.

29 - For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

30 - And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.

31 - Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

32 - It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

Verse 27, Atonement means to make satisfaction. God is satisfied with what you've done. Afflicting your soul means choose the way of suffering. Offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. (Deuteronomy 31, Moses’ atonement – his life). Everything is consumed by God's will.

Verse 28, You can't do anything of yourself. The New Testament is the fulfilment of the Old.

Luke 6:9-10

9 - Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

10 - And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

Colossians 2:16-17

16 - Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

17 - Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Matthew 11:28-30

28 - Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 - Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 - For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

The sabbath day is not to be kept in this dispensation. Jesus fulfilled that when he came. He is better than the day. Jesus said that he was Lord of the sabbath, which means he was above the sabbath. When you get him, you don't have to get the day now. Why? Because you've got him. He was that rest that the sabbath day pointed to. The sabbath was only a shadow and a type of the real thing that came. Jesus was that real thing that came. Matthew 11:28 - "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Jesus will give you rest now. They had a natural day of rest that pointed to him. He came and now we don't keep any more sabbath. He healed a man on the sabbath and told him to take up his bed and carry it through the streets. Jesus Christ did not teach the sabbath. The apostles did not teach the sabbath. The sabbath was only taught in one (1) dispensation, the fifth (5th) dispensation. The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God is preached. Jesus went into the corn field on the sabbath and his disciples picked corn. (See Mark 2:23-28). In the Old Testament, they caught a man gathering sticks. He was imprisoned. Moses asked God what to do with him. God said to kill him. (See Numbers 15:32-36). That was then and that same God (Jesus Christ) came and broke the sabbath himself. It had changed. The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath. Jesus Christ is the sabbath.
